About the Practice

At Hudson Valley Speech Therapy, therapy is built around the whole experience of stuttering: the visible moments, the invisible effort, the feelings, the choices, the avoidance, the confidence, and the real-life situations that matter most.

Services are grounded in education, autonomy, collaboration, and respect. That means clients are given space to understand their stuttering, explore their options, and decide what kind of support feels right for them.

Meet the Speech Therapist

Nicole Terhune, MS, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist and the founder of Hudson Valley Speech Therapy, a practice focused exclusively on stuttering evaluations, therapy, and consultation.

Nicole’s work is rooted in the belief that people who stutter deserve therapy that feels supportive, collaborative, and grounded in real life.

Her clinical approach is shaped by years of working alongside children, teens, adults, and families navigating the emotional, social, and practical realities of stuttering. Through that work, she developed a strong passion for helping clients better understand stuttering, explore communication choices, reduce shame and avoidance, and build more sustainable and meaningful relationships with speaking.

Nicole’s therapy style is warm, honest, and individualized. She values creating spaces where clients feel safe enough to ask questions, express uncertainty, and participate in therapy without judgment or pressure. Rather than focusing solely on observable speech behaviors, she works to support the whole communication experience; including confidence, participation, identity, advocacy, emotional safety, and autonomy.

In addition to clinical work, Nicole has experience as a clinical educator, supervising graduate student clinicians within the field of speech-language pathology. She is passionate about stuttering education and frequently creates educational content and resources focused on stuttering-affirming, participation-based approaches to therapy.

Outside of therapy, Nicole enjoys houseplants, cozy spaces, creating educational materials, and spending time in the Hudson Valley. The practice itself was inspired by the idea that communication, much like growth, does not happen all at once or in one perfect direction… it develops over time, in different ways, and at its own pace.

Hudson Valley Speech Therapy was built to be a space where people who stutter can feel informed, respected, and genuinely supported.
